THE CONTEXT

The Mergellina railway station is characterised by the presence of a remarkable historic Main Building, built in 1927 to a design by Gaetano Costa, overlooking Corso Vittorio Emanuele.

The historic building and the side entrances lead to the semi-hypogean station areas, through which one reaches the tracks, located in an unusual elevated position, facing the suggestive Parco Vergiliano in Piedigrotta.

The Project

First of all, the project envisages the creation of a semi-hypogeum Main Building behind the historical one, connecting the two side entrances, characterised by the presence of a metal false ceiling with a geometric folding structure, and the renovation of the external areas.

In addition, it is planned to build a Railway Park behind the second platform, to serve as a connection between the stop and the Vergiliano Park in front of the tracks.
